Yahoo Mobile For Web, IPhone Unveiled

Yahoo Mobile Wednesday officially launched a new application for the Web and for the iPhone, and an upcoming one for other smartphones.

Available on more than 300 mobile phones with HTML Web browsing, Yahoo Mobile for the Web lets users scroll down continuously -- rather than clicking from page to page -- to access popular services like search, email, social networking feeds and Yahoo News. The more services added, the longer the app becomes.

Both Yahoo Mobile for the Web and iPhone bring together Yahoo's oneSearch, onePlace and oneConnect apps under a single roof. For the iPhone, the Web portal also introduced a Yahoo Messenger app Wednesday.

In addition to features such as oneSearch, oneConnect and email, the forthcoming version of Yahoo Mobile for Java-based smartphones due out in May will include voice search, the Opera Mini mobile Web browser and Yahoo Widgets.

Cartier is among initial brand advertisers on Yahoo Mobile, which promises to feature display ads as well as mobile-specific ad options such as click-to-call, send to a friend or locate a dealer.

Yahoo first announced the new Yahoo Mobile formats at the Mobile World Congress in February. Each version of the platform will debut in the U.S., Canada, the U.K., France, Germany, India, Indonesia and the Philippines before being rolled out to other countries later this year.
